CETE’s objective targets

Technology education needs to develop competencies, promote talents and interests and hereby create positive identifications with technology in order to grant people actionability and maturity in a technical world and in order to render society technological progress. Fulfilling these demands in the long run is the superior aim of the CETE-Network.

A herefrom resulting, precise aim of the thematic network is to carry out developmental work. This developmental work requires expertise and is essentially based on three development directions.

This picture shows the development directions of Cete

Development direction I - Generation of findings

The most important development direction contains the gain in knowledge by research as technological educational processes are little explored so far. The poor data situation on the one hand originates from engineering still being young and less established in comparison to traditional areas of education, such as mathematics or physics. On the other hand it originates from engineering being underrepresented in schools whereby the research of technological educational processes was only paid little attention. However, evidence-based recommendations need such research findings. Therefore engineering education has to be explored by experts even more than has hitherto been the case. In addition to aspects of teaching and learning the focus is also on content issues. Further, this guideline needs to contribute to gaining missing young talents in the subject of engineering, its didactics and its scientific discipline.

Development direction II - Spread and utilisation of findings

In a second development direction the research-based findings shall be made accessible and useable not only for the academic community but also for schools’ administration and other people showing interest.

Development direction III - Application of the findings in training

The third development direction primarily focuses on training. Hereby the scientific findings shall be used and equip students with necessary skills through findings of teaching and learning research.
