The University of Missouri was founded as the first state university of Missouri in 1839. Around 35,000 students from all states of the USA and 120 countries are currently attending the University of Missouri. The Mizzou holds the country’s most powerful university research reactor. The university has 17 research parks, research centres and forests and runs one of five US centres, doing multidisciplinary research on herbal substances through the National Institutes of Health.

The pilot programme “Print Anything at MU” provides all students and employees of the university with a 3D printing laboratory. Extensive training on how to operate 3D printers for interested parties are offered at the lab.

Prof. Dr. Strobel

Prof. Dr. Johannes Strobel teaches as a professor at the “School of Information Science & Learning Technologies”, belonging to the University of Missouri. His subject includes STEM education with special focus on technology and engineering. Therefore he is part of the implementation and further development of the STEM teaching units “Hands-on Standard”. These units aim to playfully train the understanding of technology through access to technological situations already in Pre-School and Middleschool. Hereby, STEM teaching units are connected with 3D printing so that children can acquire the skill to try out their creative ideas as junior engineers at an early stage. Previously Prof. Dr. Strobel worked as a lecturer at the University of Texas A&M. Here he was head of the Educational Outreach Programme and held a professorship for Engineering Technology as well as Teaching, Learning and Culture.
Before his work at the Texas A&M he was director of the Institute for P-12 Engineering Research and Learning at Purdue University. INSPIRE is a research institution within the School of Engineering Education at Purdue University. This institution takes part in the development of curricula, measuring instruments, teacher and parent education, museum exhibitions, afterschool-programmes and STEM educational policies in the entire spectrum of P-12 engineering education.
In addition he is the chief editor of the Journal of Pre-College Engineering Education Research (J-PEER) and co-editor of the Journal of Online Engineering Education as well as the IEEE Transactions on Education. He is also a reviewer to the ASEAN Journal of Engineering Education and the International Journal of Design and Technology Education.
